My claim is that DAPs are intimately connected with meaning nuggets and wisdom—specifically that a person's DAPs capture what they've learned is part of a good life for them through experience.
In the remainder of this essay, I'll focus on these in turn
- First, what I mean by experience?
- Second, what I mean by meaning.
- And third, what I mean by wisdom.
The picture that's painted, when we see how daps relate to people's experience, meaning and wisdom, suggests that DAPs are what social systems should be designed for.
And the daps, almost coextensive with meaning nuggets. But not with social visions, the daps and social visions for long to separate domains to make my point about experience that helps to contrast gaps in social visions. So let's tell the story above again. But involving a shift from a social division. One question here is why daps would be so closely associated with meaning. I think we experienced meaning when we're on the frontier. When we're living on the frontier as a good life as best we understand it, according to our current experience, I have more to say about what I mean by the frontier in the next section. Finally, let's turn to wisdom. There are two aspects of daps that together To capture the kind of human judgment that I'd like to call wisdom first daps because daps are adopted due to diffuse benefits they belong to our conception of the good life or lived country conception of the good life our experience. Second, because which attentional policies to adopt involves hard choices and trade offs. adapts that a person has decided to adopt constitute a judgment call about the good life. based on experience, I would like to call this judgment calls about the good life based on experience, wisdom. All that remains is to consider the knowledge the depression staps covers and don't cover. what's covered by a person is what you collected when you collected it first, and stamps and what you haven't collected. One thing you haven't collected is everything meaningful to a person because some of what's meaningful. However, these meaning nuggets, which aren't apps, precisely the ones that have not yet been incorporated into a person's wisdom. I think the best policy is not to learn too hard on the experience of meaning. But to focus instead on how people have decide to live based on their experiences of meaning. And second of all, there are kinds of wisdom that is knowledge about the good life as it's experienced. Which are not captured adapts because we don't need to attend to it. Here's the story of Carla This is a bit trickier. Ideally, we would collect such potential gaps as well as we can collect somebodies actual current apps. However, I doubt we can do this in a systematic way. Because it is only through the context of attention that we get to wisdom we get to someone's wisdom. And without paying attention to these contests, it becomes easy to assume that whatever is automatically present in a person's life is important. There's likely a way out of this conundrum. Which is to use population level data about gaps. Because for every person like Carla, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Have I convinced you that dabs can be collected and that they capture someone's wisdom and a great deal of what's meaningful to them? their wisdom, their judgments and a great deal about their experience, their wisdom, their judgment, about their experience and a great deal of what's meaningful to them? There are many things I haven't covered. Why is it that we struggle to live by our daps to live lives of meaning? If we have them? How do you design to make it easier for people to live out their deaths? How does a person end up with the daps they have and how might they improve them? And why is it exactly that when people make choices like viewing videos or purchasing or shopping, that they aren't always following their daps and living with meaning such that metrics like GDP and monthly active users don't tend to line up with what's meaningful to people. These are fascinating questions. The day we'll have to wait for another day. I don't yet have pithy articles about them if you're willing to spend some time, sign up for the school
